The Visser Collection, Volume I, Parts 1, 2, and 3
Arms of the Netherlands
Collected over a period of more than thirty years, the Visser Collection is the finest and largest concentration of smallarms fabricated in the cultural area historically known as the Low Countries. Although there have been other studies of Dutch small arms, none has included such comprehensive in-depth mass of information on the detailed development and regional charactaristics of Netherlands small arms manufacture.
Never before has so much time and effort by various experts in the fields of firearms development and cultural history been devoted to the detailed description and cataloging of a largely neglected aspect of Netherlands social and commercial diversification.
Concentrated on the Golden Age of Dutch history during the 16th and 17th centuries, the collection explores in discriminating detail the achievements of not only the most skilled and celebrated Netherlands gunmakers, but the vital part played by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in its military and naval aspects, as well as teh overall significance of the DUtch maritime commercial empire.
